Workplace Bullying

Hi there, my friends, I am going to talk about workplace bullying for this month Concerned Bloggers Post. I didn’t really realize it until I was doing research for this month’s topic. I have been the victim of workplace bullying for a long time by the person who was my supervisor.
Lets start off by a definition of workplace bullying: “it is repeated, health-harming mistreatment of one of more persons (targets) by one or more perpetrators that takes one of more of the following forms:

• Verbal abuse
• Offensive conduct/behaviors (including nonverbal) which are threatening, humiliating, or intimidating
• Work interference – sabotage – which prevents work from getting done”

My ex-supervisor is extremely manipulative and a spin-master she can turn anything around in her favor at the drop of a hat. She would reprimand me and others loudly in front of everyone around. I would confront her, but her manipulative ways would come into play and after a bit you just give up. Where I work all the people in my classification are up for a mandatory reclassification. She has been trying to get me to agree to a lower classification, and I have stood my ground. I went to my union representatives for assistance we came up with a rebuttal to her proposal. I got a call from my union rep and she said OMG your supervisor is a super beooch, I said oh yes I know. My then beooch supervisor wrote a lengthy document slamming me and downplaying the work that I perform and turned it into Human Resources, this is why my union rep made the call as she got a copy of this document from Human Resources.

When my union rep called, I knew somethings that my beooch supervisor did not know yet. Our department was going to be merged with another and I was going to be under a new supervisor. I whispered this to my union rep what was going to happen, she said oh thank gawd that lady should not be supervising anyone. My old beooch supervisor said to me on many occasions as long as you are in this division you will never go beyond the classification you are now, well I am still in the same division and there is discussion going on about me progressing to a higher level
So it turns out now, I have a new supervisor, a new office and a new outlook on my work. I am eager to do a good job and not so drained by coming to work. I am sitting pretty and very happy.

Not calling bullying “bullying,” in order to avoid offending the sensibilities of those who made the bullying possible, is a disservice to bullied individuals whose jobs, careers, and health have been threatened as the result. Tom Engelhardt said it wisely when he said, “Words denied mean analyses not offered, things not grasped, surprise not registered, strangeness not taken in, all of which means that terrible mistakes are repeated, wounding ways of acting in the world never seriously reconsidered. The words’ absence chains you to the present, to what’s accepted and acceptable.”

We need to stand up and face bullying and take the proper channels to stop the workplace bully. Unfortunately, the beooch is still in the office next to mine, and she still tries her bullying ways on me. I let her know I am no longer under you, and you need to speak to my new supervisor about that. Let me say it is heavenly telling her this!!!
